Wedding planning can be exciting for some, however it can be a little be scary for others – there are just so many wedding suppliers out there.
Wedding fairs are a great place to start plus there is always the added temptation of a glass of fizz, cake samples, special offers and goody bags to entice you along. However, it can be a little bit overwhelming especially when attend your first one – here are my top tips for getting the most out of a wedding fair.
If you have venue in mind pop along to their open day or wedding fair for an informal look around. However choosing the right venue can be a little daunting – the choice is overwhelming, check out my blog on choosing the right venue for you – coming soon!
It doesn’t matter if you haven’t set a date or found your perfect venue yet – if you are engaged and there is a fair happening locally, pop along and chat with suppliers – see what is on offer. Pick up as much literature as you can it will be full of inspirations and advise and may even include a special offer or two! No-one will mind if you’re not quite at the stage of booking venues and suppliers. You may pick up an amazing piece of information or stumble across some amazing inspiration.
There are no silly questions! Every wedding is unique and every couple has different questions and requirements. As suppliers, we may have attended hundreds of weddings, but for most couples, we understand that this is probably the first time you have ever planned something such as this (hopefully the only time!) – each and every supplier can offer advice and guidance use that knowledge to your advantage. Not sure what to ask – grab a copy of my guide to wedding photography where there are some ideas of the type questions you might want to ask, also don’t forget to ask the important question of all!
If you want to have time to have a good chat with suppliers then it is normally best to arrive towards the end of the day. It is usually busy at the start of every wedding fair which makes it a little difficult to speak with any suppliers. Arriving later in the day it is generally quiet and you should be able to have longer chat with any potential suppliers you would like to speak to.
You will also find inspiration and ideas for things that you didn’t even know you wanted! Most wedding fairs will have photographers (lots!) florists, cake-makers, venue dressers and wedding gown suppliers. But what about magicians, ring making workshops? The list is endless – pop along and be inspired.
This is THE best thing about wedding fairs – you get to meet the people behind the business. Weddings are a hugely personal thing. Yes, it’s possible to book all of your suppliers online or over the phone but meeting your suppliers face-to-face is vital. Guess what? – I have a blog about why you should meet your wedding photographer – check it out!
